The area known today as Diocese of Ogbaru started as Ogbaru Missionary Archdeaconry, carved out from the Onitsha South Archdeaconry in the Diocese On the Niger. The Ogbaru Missionary Archdeaconry was inaugurated in 2006 as the First Missionary Archdeaconry in the Diocese On the Niger with the collation, and installation of Ven. Joseph O. I Nweke as the Archdeacon.
